Other Shared Equity Arrangements
Community Land Trusts (CLTs) are one very successful means of sharing equity between an individual or family and a community based non-profit corporation.
Another possible structure that may circumvent the need for setting up a full trust in certain circumstances is a legal arrangement that provides for sharing the equity between a homeowner and non-profit housing developer and/or local jurisdiction such as a city.
The Northwest Oregon Community Development Collaborative (NOW CDC) is working with the Community Development Law Center to develop legal papers for such an arrangement. Contact Jim Tierney of Community Action Team in St. Helens, Oregon to see how this is faring.
And stay tuned.
