Regional CLTs

Local control is essential to the Community Land Trust model, but housing organizations are increasingly expensive and complicated to set up. Small communities do not necessarily all need to reinvent or duplicate the process.

Use of Limited Liability Corporations (LLC) substructures may permit a new pattern of effective sharing.  It looks like this will allow small-regional scale of CLT operation, while retaining control of housing in the local community, and insulating risks and assets.

Locally on the north Oregon Coast, the Planning Department of the City of Seaside and groups in Cannon Beach and Lincoln County have been in conversation with NeahCasa about doing CLT’s in their jurisdictions or joining with us in a regional CLT.

NeahCasa intends to continue to explore the potential for these LLC sub-structures.    We are looking to raise $5000 to pay for staff time and legal consultants to develop policies, documents, and procedures.

Stay tuned.
